Time Magazine has named its Person of the Year for 2025—so who is the architect of artificial intelligence?

“Person of the Year is a powerful way to focus the world’s attention on those who shape our lives,” Time editor-in-chief Sam Jacobs wrote in an article Thursday. “No one will have a greater impact this year than the people who imagine, design and build artificial intelligence.”

This selection is usually reserved for “the person or people who have had the greatest impact on the news and our lives, for better or for worse, and who embodied what was important about the year, for better or worse.” (Last year’s Time Person of the Year was president donald trump.)

time magazine Their decision was met with some backlash on social media. “This is outrage bait,” their comments section replied, while others added, “Was the AI chosen this time?”
Others suggested potential options for next year. One social media user responded: “I mean, if you guys want to do a real pope sometime next year, a new pope would be pretty cool.” Other comments noted that while Time magazine praised artificial intelligence, it did not use it in the photos.
