Thread it’s already over 400 million monthly usersbut Meta wants to push this number even further. With the launch of the new Threads feature this week, the company is making it easier for Threads users to share posts on the app to their Instagram Stories – a move that could benefit more Instagram users to bring more people to Meta’s X contest.
The company he announced Thursday a new feature that allows you to share Threads posts to your Instagram Story without leaving the Threads app, instead of previewing how the post will appear on your Story directly in the Threads app.
The app previously allowed you to share everyone’s Threads posts to your Instagram Story in the same way you can share Instagram posts to your Story. It also provided tools to share your posts on Instagram Feed or DMs.
Meta posts first, like Twitter like Threads first was launched in July 2023 and it benefited from its relationship with Instagram to quickly grow its first users. To sign up, users had to authenticate with their Instagram credentials, which allowed Threads to include account information, such as username, bio, and photo, as well as verification and follower features.
With one tap, users can instantly follow accounts they already follow on Instagram – and those who aren’t on Threads will get a notification that someone has added them.
In the months and years following its launch, Meta has leaned heavily on its other, larger social networks to continue growing Threads, including showing popular posts for Threads on Facebook and add a similar carousel of It sends messages to Instagram users. The company also made it easier for users post from Instagram and Facebook to Threadswhich also helped promote adoption.
The move has paid off. Data from market intelligence provider Similaweb last month showed this Threads are now seeing more use on a daily basis than Elon Musk’s X for mobile devices. (X still dominates the Internet, however.) Thread counts are also increasing, doubling usage from 200 million monthly users in August 2024 to 400 million monthly users from August 2025. The company announced in October that Threads reached 150 million daily users, too.
