Thomas Rhett and wife Lauren Akins With the arrival of baby number five, the family is officially growing again.
“Welcome to the brave world 🩵💚🩵” Akins wrote via Instagram post Uploaded on Friday, February 27th. “Oh my gosh. Our hearts are in a big puddle with this precious little boy 🩵🦆🩵⚾️🩵🦌🩵🐟🩵”
Aikins shared that their son was born two weeks ahead of his due date and praised Red for her support in the delivery room.
“Brave Elijah Adkins was born last week, weighing nearly 10 pounds, almost two weeks early – thank Jesus this big boy didn’t wait another two weeks to arrive 😍,” the caption continued. “Thomas Rhett was my biggest supporter during labor 🤍 He helped deliver him (😭) and he was the first person to see him, *tears* while announcing with a bit of shock to all of us in the room “it’s a boy” 😭🩵🥰”
She concluded: “We are so grateful to God for choosing us to give you lovely pies🥰🥰 All four of your sisters are smitten and we are totally in love with the brave big boy you are 🩵🌙🩵“
Rhett and Akins have been married since October 2012. The couple became parents for the first time in May 2017, adopting daughter Willa. Aikins subsequently gave birth to daughter Ada in August 2017, Lennon in February 2020, and daughter Lillie in November 2021.
Nearly four years later, Rhett and Akins announced via Instagram in August 2025 that they expecting their fifth child. In the accompanying video, Reed performs his 2017 hit single “Life Changes,” which features significantly altered lyrics about fatherhood.
“Well, I was thinking about being a father. The plans we had were derailed. Now Lauren’s coming out – there’s one right away. That’s -” Rhett sang, and Akins held up five fingers, “Hey, five under ten. Hey, what can I say? Yeah, life changes. You wake up and nothing is ever the same. Yeah, life changes.”
Akins then showed a sonogram and looked at Red with a smile.
“Here we go again!” the pair captioned the post. “We have some very excited big sisters in our family. God is so good.”
Before the announcement, Reed hinted that he and Adkins might not have any more kids, shared His 2024 us weekly cover story They were “pleased with all four.”
“Lily started school, so we were like giddy little kids saying, ‘What are we going to do eight hours a day, three days a week?'” he told EXCLUSIVELY us then. “But it wouldn’t be a shock if a fifth one (came) in the next three or four years.”
Reed also reflected on his own experiences as a parent, revealing that he wished he could have told his old self to “cherish” when he first became a father.
“It’s easy to wish away the hard years. (Lauren) calls them ‘wiping the years’ — wiping tears, mopping floors, wiping butts, all of that. I’ve been a dad long enough to know how quickly it goes by,” he explained. “One day, the problems I have with my kids will be much different than not wanting to eat broccoli. I’m learning how to live in these moments.”
With a busy career and a large family, Rhett has a lot to juggle when it comes to work-life balance. Ultimately, he hopes to set a good example for children.
“No parent wants to hear, ‘Why did you have to leave?'” I had to learn how to reframe my answers, so instead of saying, ‘I know, honey, I really don’t want to leave,’ I’d say, ‘I don’t have to leave.’ I can do this because I have the privilege of doing what I love at work,” he told me us. “I want them to know that they can make a living doing what they love.”
