There has been a lot of push back electronic doors to work recently, as several car manufacturers – especially Tesla – accused of making manual doors difficult to access and access during an emergency. Rivian is one of the companies that is said to have decided to change this on its upcoming R2 SUV, and a spate The first look videos released on Tuesday finally show us what the company has changed.
First, the front doors open from the inside similar to the existing R1 cars. There is an electric button that opens the door, and there is a door release latch located in front of the interior handle.
The rear doors also have a power button, as well as a switch to release the rear manual.
On R1 cars, passengers must first pull the panel from the door to access the “release cable” which has a manual latch. On the new R2 SUV, Rivian has moved this release cable to the same place in front of the handle as the front manual release – although it is still behind the plastic that must be released, which makes it more difficult to find than the one released by the front door.
The R2 SUV isn’t set to go into production for a few months, so the company hasn’t given proper instructions on how to get the release. But here is a picture from the new one movie Posted by JerryRigEverything’s Zack Nelson:

They don’t release the actual cable, but it’s the best illustration I’ve seen so far of what passengers should do if they’re in an R2 that’s lost power for whatever reason, limiting the car door release.
The manual release is still behind the plastic, and is not the most visible or accessible way to open the door from the inside. But it’s in a better place than just being hidden behind a group.

This rarely happens. But when it does, it is often at a great risk. This means that every moment can mean the difference between life and death.
Rivian isn’t the only one reinventing the hard-to-find manuscripts. A classic example is Tesla. Bloomberg news is available at least 15 died in the accident where there is evidence that the occupants (or rescuers) were unable to open the doors. The company has said it will changing the way it works to solve the problem.
And electric door closers can present other problems. Last year, Ford had to issue a recall to fix a problem with the power supply for the electric power doors on the Mustang Mach-E.
