Just over a week ago, US media reported that a Marine Corps expeditionary force consisting of about 2,500 combat soldiers and support ships and aircraft had been dispatched from Japan to the Middle East and was expected to arrive in the Middle East in the next few days. Another similarly sized Marine unit recently left a base in California and is expected to arrive in mid-April.
