The moment a Hawaiian volcano erupts and engulfs the camera

A volcano in Hawaii spewed lava at a remote camera recording the eruption, engulfing it in ash and knocking it down.

Video from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) shows that after the eruption, the camera malfunctioned and stopped functioning, and then the camera’s image disappeared.

Lava fountains as high as 30m (100 feet) appeared on Saturday at Kilauea volcano in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, the US Geological Survey said.

Kilauea is one of the most active volcanoes in the world and has been erupting intermittently since December.
