The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft has a non-glare, oxide-based e-ink display with a glossy finish that makes it feel like writing on paper. This helps with the transition to a digital device for those used to handwriting. It also saves on battery life – the device can go up to 8 weeks between charges.
Helpfully, the display adjusts its brightness to match the current lighting conditions, and you can choose to adjust the screen temperature to be warmer for reading at night. But even though it’s a touch screen, it’s less responsive than an LCD or OLED screen, like the one on the iPad. This means that when you have gestures, such as pressing to change the font size, there is a slight decrease.
Like any Kindle, you can read e-books or PDFs on the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft tablet. You can also import Word documents and other files from Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive directly to your device, or use it Send to Kindle perhaps. (Supported files include PDF, DOC/DOCX, TXT, RTF, HTM, HTML, PNG, GIF, JPG/JPEG, BMP, and EPUB.) Your notes on the device can be exported to Microsoft OneNote, as well.

It is smooth, so it can slide in your hand.
Amazon’s design also requires you to change the writing tips from time to time, depending on how you use them, as much as possible. It’s not too expensive to – at 10 it’s about $17 – but that’s another thing to do and manage.

For writing, you can choose between a pen, a pen, a pen, or a pencil with different diameters, depending on your preference. There are templates for meeting notes, storyboards, routine trackers, monthly planners, music sheets, graph sheets, lists, daily planners, dotted sheets, and more. (New templates with this feature include Conference Notes, Cornell Notes, Legal Pad, and College Rule options.)
It’s great that you can erase things by simply turning the pen to use a soft-tipped eraser, just like you would with a No. 2 pencil. Because of the e-ink screen, you can sometimes see the ghost of drawing or writing on the screen after erasing, but this fades away a bit (which can drive a lot of brands crazy).
There is a Lasso tool for rotating objects and moving them around, copying or pasting, or resizing, but this is probably not used much by casual writers.
There are some useful features for those who do a lot of reporting, too.
For example, when you’re writing in a Word document or book, a feature called Active Canvas allows you to write your notes. As you write directly in the book above the text, the sentence will move around your note. Even if you change the font size of the text you’re reading, the text remains consistent with the text it originally referenced. I prefer this to write directly in e-books, since things are organized, but others they don’t agree.
In magnet-enlarged letters, you can click the margin icon in the upper left or right corner to write your notes in the margin, instead of on the page itself.
The Kindle is AI (of course)
The new version also includes several AI tools and features.
This device will cleanly organize your notes and straighten your highlights and emphasis. A couple of times, the monitor caused our monitor to turn off, but it recovered when we went back to the Home screen and clicked the side button.
Meanwhile, the new AI feature (look for the glowing icon on the top left of the screen) allows you to summarize and improve your writing. The latter, surprisingly, does not allow you to change the drawn font but allows you to choose between small handwritten fonts (Cadia, Florio, Sunroom, and Notewright) via the Customize button.
The AI ​​tool was not perfect. It was able to describe the scary text, but it stumbled when there was another text on the same page as the text. However, it’s a great option to have if you can’t write properly after years, but like the feel of handwriting and the feel of analog.
AI search can also look through your books to find articles or links between them. To search, you can click on the on-screen keyboard or switch to the option to manually type in the search results, which are then converted to text. You can interact with search results (AI-powered analytics) using the Ask Notebooks AI feature, which allows you to query against your notebooks.
Soon, Amazon will add another AI Appearanceincluding an “Ask the Book” section that allows you to analyze a passage and then find spoiler-free answers to a question you have – such as a character’s purpose, meaning, or plot details. Another section, “The Story So Far,” will help you better understand the book you’re reading if you take a break, but without spoiling it.
