Fitbit founders James Park and Eric Friedman are involved he announced the launch of a new AI app called Luffu that aims to help families manage their health. The pair are developing an “intelligent family care system” that will start with software knowledge and expand into hardware.
Two years after leaving Google, Park and Friedman are betting on AI to help reduce the emotional burden of maintenance. According to a recent report63 million, or nearly 1 in 4, US adults are family caregivers, up 45% from 10 years ago.
Luffu uses AI in the background to collect and process family data, learn daily behaviors, and suggest key changes to keep families connected and address potential health issues.
“At Fitbit, we focused on our health – but after Fitbit, my health became more than just thinking about myself,” Park said. Press release. “I was taking care of my parents from all over the country, trying to coordinate my mother’s care at different portals and providers, with a language barrier that made it difficult for me to understand, at the time of the doctor’s visits.

The pair recognize that today’s consumer health market is populated by people, but real life is shared with loved ones, children, parents, pets, and caregivers. Family information is posted on tools, portals, calendars, stickers, spreadsheets, and paper.
With Luffu, people will be able to track the details of the entire family, including health statistics, nutrition, medications, symptoms, lab tests, doctor visits, and more. Users can enter health information using text, words, or images. Luffu monitors changes, and displays alerts and notifications, such as unusual needs or sleep changes.
The two of them he told Axios that people can ask simple questions about their family’s health, such as “Is Dad’s new diet affecting his blood pressure?” or “Did someone give the dog his medicine?”
