The FBI is investigating a hacker who is suspected of having distributed several video games containing malware on the popular PC game store Steam, an organization. he said Friday.
In its announcement targeting the victims of the virus, the FBI listed the following games suspected to have been developed by the same cybercriminal over the past two years, which were on the Steam store but were infected with malware: BlockBlasters, Chemia, Dashverse/DashFPS, Lampy, Lunara, PirateFi, and Tokenova.
This is not the first time that hackers have been able to host malware in Valve’s gaming marketplace. Last year, hackers printed several game on Steam that contains malware. The game was functional, if small. Instead, the intent of the developer or developers was to act as a Trojan horse, tricking players into installing malware on their computers. Steam took the game down, but unknown people got sick in the process.
