Between his motivational tips and techniques for not letting your past define you, Appleton has also found a way to casually drop the names of some of the celebrity clients he’s worked with over the years, like chris jenner, gold Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez and Christina Aguilera.
Appleton also discussed his short-lived marriage to the actor Lucas Gagewho did not reveal his name. Appleton married Gage in 2023 in a Las Vegas ceremony hosted by Kardashian and filmed kardashian family. Their marriage ended after six months.
“I was convinced that I had found the one for me, and within a few months of being together, we were engaged. I was all in,” Appleton writes in his book. “We flew to Las Vegas with my family and were serenaded Shania Twainthen wore matching fur coats and had my dear friend Kim Kardashian officiate our wedding. Appleton has been the longtime hairstylist for many members of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, including matriarch and beloved mom Kris. In the foreword written by Jenner, she talks about being initially attracted to Appleton’s hair, but that “his heart,” “his journey,” “and the way he used his gifts not only to style hair, but also to lift spirits and change lives,” was what attracted her most to Appleton.
Appleton wrote to Jenner in a letter of thanks, “I am honored to call you a friend, a mentor, and an inspiration. Your brilliance as a businesswoman, your strength as a mother, and your timeless grace continue to set the standard. You lead with strength, purpose, and style—and remind us all that there is no limit to what a woman can achieve at any stage of life. Thank you for showing us what is possible.”

Appleton praised Kardashian for being very personable with the people she works with. “She said hello and introduced herself to everyone in the room,” Appleton wrote. “Whether you were the lighting technician, the cousin of the PA who delivered the coffee order, or the Prime Minister, whoever it was, she took the time to recognize everyone.”
“She didn’t have to; no one expected that from anyone, let alone her. It would have been easier not to take the time; she’s the busiest person I’ve ever met, but she put in the effort and it worked,” Appleton continued.
Appleton went on to note that in his opinion, Kardashian exudes “genuine kindness and warmth.” Later he called her out on the list next to him Anna Wintour, Steve Position, Dojiyi, Emma Stone, Rihanna, ASAP Loki, beyonce, Zendaya Wait, because of having a great personal brand. He noted, “Whether it’s a new album, a movie, a clothing line, a product launch, or a soundtrack featuring these people, we know it’s going to be great or iconic. It’s not just because they’re famous or beautiful. It’s because they have something to show the world.”
In a chapter about creating your signature look, Kris writes about how Kardashian uses her hair as a form of “currency.” “Kim’s hair is always in photogenic perfection—glass-straight obsidian, platinum drama, soft waves, and a sharp center part. Nothing is random. Nothing is accidental. Every look is crafted with precision, designed to dominate the flow and drive fashion trends.”

Appleton was contacted by someone from the legendary performer’s team while he was living in his hometown of Leicester, England. Appleton initially thought it was spam and didn’t reply. They later contacted him a second time, but Lopez was unable to do his hair because he still lived in Leicester. This missed opportunity prompted Appleton to move to Los Angeles soon after.
When he arrived, someone from Lopez’s team contacted him a third time. “This time it’s to style her new music video. I’m over the moon,” Appleton wrote. “The day of the call, someone called me, and as soon as I answered the phone, they said they were going to transfer me to Jennifer. Jennifer? Like Jennifer Lopez? My mind was racing. What should I call her? Jennifer? J. Lo? Jenny from the block? And then all of a sudden Jennifer Lopez was on the other end of the line. ‘Hey, baby,’ she said. ‘This is what we’re doing…'”
“She was warm, sweet, and knew exactly the concept she wanted for the music video. When I hung up the phone…I couldn’t remember most of what she said because I was in such a state of shock,” Appleton recalled.
In his acknowledgments, Appleton thanked Lopez “for being not only a friend but a guiding light throughout my career,” he wrote. “Your generosity, wisdom, and belief in me have opened doors I never imagined possible. I am deeply grateful for the example you have set and the role you have played in my journey.”

Later in the book, Appleton recalls a time when he was called in to do Aguilera’s hair when she was a judge. sound. After the makeup team was done, Appleton gave her just 20 minutes to do her hair and suggested she wear a wig. The Grammy-winning singer and actress was reluctant at first and told Appleton she didn’t like wigs, to which Appleton replied, “You’ve never tried one of my wigs.”
“Ten minutes before the live show, I pinned the wig on Christina’s head. She looked beautiful and the wig looked natural on her head and suited her style,” Appleton wrote. “After the show, I saw Christina standing in the hallway. She looked back at me. My heart was pounding. ‘Everyone loved your wig,’ she gave me her signature smirk. I was almost filled with relief and pride. This was truly a pivotal moment in my career.”
