Texas skating coach charged with child sex assault


A figure skating coach has been arrested in North Texas on sexual assault charges, with authorities accusing him of sexually abusing two athletes he was training with, including a minor.

Benjamin Slutz The arrest was made Tuesday, February 17, at Allen’s home.

Police said Schrotz’s arrest followed a three-day investigation into allegations that he sexually assaulted two athletes he worked with. According to investigators, one of the women was under 18 when she was allegedly sexually abused by Shroats.

Schrotz, 47, is charged with one count of indecent sexual contact with a child and one count of sexual assault.

His bail totals $200,000. Plea information was unavailable Thursday, Feb. 19.

Police say they continue to investigate Shroats and ask any other possible victims to contact them by calling (214) 509-4200.

Shroats is well known in the Texas skating community. He had previously competed as a pairs skater; nbc news reportand taught in Collin County for more than ten years.

He also works with American figure skaters amber glen Years ago — long before she became a 2026 Olympian. Shroats is also a long-time member of the Dallas Figure Skating Club.

The safety and welfare of children is our top priority.

“It is also important to clarify the club’s role. The Dallas Figure Skating Club does not hire, employ or supervise coaches,” the statement continued. “All coaches who offer private lessons are independent coaches and lesson arrangements are made directly between the home and coach. Additionally, the club does not own, operate or manage any rinks.

“We respect the investigative process and believe the Allen Police Department is conducting a thorough investigation and respect the privacy of those involved,” the statement added. “If you have information that may be relevant, or if you have concerns about a child who may have had contact with this coach, please contact the Allen Police Department directly for guidance and assistance.”

Glenn, a member of Team USA, had a disappointing performance in the women’s figure skating short program at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Glenn, 26, finished 13th in the race on Tuesday, February 17th.

“Getting my highest score 3Axel,” she captioned a video of herself smiling and dancing. Then the voice turns to say, “I’m such a bad guy.” The skater kicks the air and raises his hands.

“Screwed up and invalidated that last jump,” she wrote in the video. “I’m coping just fine, thank you for asking.”
