Spotify narrows down the way to monetize video podcasts

Spotify is lowering its eligibility criteria so that listeners can monetize their videos on the platform, with a minimum of three downloads, a minimum of 2,000 hours, and a maximum of 1,000 subscribers in the last 30 days.

When the company announced its Last year’s video monetization programcreators had to publish 12 episodes, hit 10,000 hours of usage in the last 30 days, and had at least 2,000 people to show their content in the last 30 days to be part of the program.

The program pays podcasters based on the number of premium users who viewed their videos on Spotify, along with a portion of the advertising revenue they receive from users in the free community.

The company is also introducing new support tools that will allow developers to edit, optimize, and measure the sites they support that are read by video advertisers. These tools are coming to the Spotify for Creators program, and Megaphone, the podcast hosting and monetization company, in April.

Compared to its video channel to better compete with YouTube, Spotify is now introducing a new API that will allow creators to use their existing platforms to publish and monetize video podcasts on Spotify. At launch, tools like Acast, Audioboom, Libsyn, Omny, and Podigee will adopt this API, the company said.

The new move comes as Spotify has been looking for new ways to attract users and increase its subscription revenue. The company said that since the launch of the affiliate program, usage of video podcasts on the app has nearly doubled, and that most Spotify podcast users view twice as many videos per month as they did before the program was launched.

But this may be due to the ad service showing more videos.

The company is also opening a recording studio for podcasts and videos in West Hollywood. Spotify said the studio will serve as the backbone of the Ringer podcast network, and will open the studio to select public programming creators. The company already has studios in the art scene in LA, New York, Stockholm, and London.
