Spotify boosts its voice with access to the Internet, translating more

Spotify on Wednesday announced changes to its built-in audio services, which include global audio translation, offering offline audio streaming, and app transfer.

The update follows other tweaks the streamer has made to the voice over the years, hoping to expand the feature as a tool to push free users to become subscribers. This started with Spotify testing to paywall music in 2024, already releasing his grip later in the year after many complaints.

Now, the company is hoping that the new music streaming service – which will only be available to Premium subscribers – will encourage users to upgrade.

In the new version, songs will also be moved to appear below the album art or a short, looping video that plays alongside the song. Spotify says it decided to move the audio to the public domain after testing with users to increase engagement in the segment. (It’s still possible to share your favorite audio on TV from the Now Playing View, the company said.)

This feature, which Spotify called the music app, will be rolled out globally to free and paid customers on the iOS and Android apps for phones and tablets.

In addition, voice translation, which was first introduced in 2022, is now available worldwide. That’s an increase from the 25 markets it supported last year. When translations are available, you can click the translation icon on the word card to see the translations appear below the original text. The translation will be consistent with whatever language your device is set to, Spotify says.

Over the years, Spotify has been slow to release audio from its apps, mostly due to licensing issues. After years of consumer demand, the company finally released it real music for users around the world in 2021 after a a small start in several markets a year ago, with tests starting in 2019. Prior to this, Spotify had united and Genius on the “back-to-back” section, which combines a few words and little songs.
