Skiers slide down slopes as snow-capped Mount Etna erupts

On December 27, Mount Etna in Sicily was filmed erupting into a huge plume of ash and smoke as skiers skied on the slopes below.

Scientists from the National Geographic and Volcanology Institute said volcanic activity from frequent eruptions at the site has intensified, spewing ash from the crater.

In response, scientists issued the highest level red volcano observatory aviation advisory, although authorities said flights at nearby airports would continue to operate normally unless volcanic ash increased.
