Singapore jails Australian man who robbed Evil star

A Singapore court has sentenced an Australian man to nine days in jail for grabbing Hollywood star Ariana Grande at a movie premiere.

Johnson Wen, 26, was found guilty of public nuisance. high profile events Last Thursday, “Wicked: Forever” had its Asian premiere.

Video posted on social media showed Wen jumping over a barrier, rushing toward a visibly shocked Grande, grabbing her shoulders and jumping up and down.

The incident sparked outrage in Singapore, with many calling for Wen to be arrested and deported because of his history of disrupting concerts and celebrity events.

Some accused him of “retraumatizing” Grande. The pop star-turned-actress said she experienced post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomber attacked a concert in Manchester in May 2017, killing 22 people and injuring hundreds.

At Wen’s trial on Monday, the court heard that he twice tried to break into a movie premiere, Singapore media reported.

Shortly after he grabbed hold of Grande, her partner Cynthia Erivo forcibly pried him away and security guards escorted him out.

He then tried a second time to jump over the barricade. Security guards stopped him, this time pushing him to the ground.

Wen later posted a video of the incident on his social media accounts, thanking Grande and saying he was “free.”

Singapore police arrested him the next day and charged him with public nuisance. Wen admitted guilt.

Prosecutors asked for Mr. Wen to spend a week in jail, saying he was a “serial intruder” who publicized his actions online to gain popularity.

Vin has posted videos of himself disrupting concerts by Katy Perry and The Weeknd and breaking into venues at various sporting events. Australian media reported that he was banned from some stadiums and slapped with hefty fines.

Wen Jiabao, who did not appear in court in Singapore, pleaded with the judge, saying he “will never do this again.”

Under Singapore’s public nuisance laws, Wen could be jailed for up to three months, fined up to S$2,000 (£1,167; US$1,537), or both.

Grande has not commented on the case but continued to appear at events in Los Angeles over the weekend.

But two days after the incident, Erivo seemed to allude to the incident when speaking about her relationship with Grande while filming the movie, saying: “We’ve been going through some things in our lives, our day-to-day lives…honestly, even in the last week.”
