Sex toy maker Tenga says hackers stole customer information

Sex toy maker Tenga notified customers of the data breach on Friday, according to an email obtained by TechCrunch.

In the message, the Japanese company said that “an unauthorized group accessed the email account of one of our employees,” which gave the hacker access to the contents of the employee’s inbox. This access would allow a hacker to view and steal customer names, email addresses, and past email correspondence, “which may include information about orders or customer inquiries.”

The hacker also sent spam emails to victims, including customers, according to an email sent to customers.

Tenga did not respond to a request for comment and to provide more information, such as the number of affected customers. The company claims on its website that it has shipped more than 162 million products worldwide.

Order details and customer inquiries may include information that many customers may not want to disclose, depending on the nature of the product in question.

The company urged customers to change their passwords, although it did not say that customers’ passwords had been compromised, and to be alert to suspicious emails, especially from an employee, whose account appears to have been compromised.

Tenga said it took a number of steps after the breach, including restoring the employee’s identity that was stolen and backing up “our system,” a key security feature it called. multi-factor authenticationwhich prevents logging into an account with a stolen password. The company did not respond when asked if there was any information on the email account prior to the breach.

Tenga was founded in 2005 in Japan, and is headquartered in Tokyo. Tenga sells a variety of sex toys, especially for men. It is unclear whether the breach affected customers outside the United States, as the email was from Tenga Store USA.

Tenga is the latest in a long line of sex toy manufacturers, like Lovesense last yearand large leaves, viz Pornhub last year is SexPanther in 2020, which was stolen.
