“It is my opinion that Selena Quintanilla Pérez, a 23-year-old female, died as a result of a gunshot wound to the chest that perforated the chest and resulted in a loss of internal and external blood, known as hemorrhage,” the coroner said. Lloyd White wrote.
Saldivar was charged with first-degree murder and convicted in October 1995. Although Saldivar requested parole in December 2024, as of November 2025, Saldivar had not yet been released. Saldivar is already serving her sentence at the women’s prison in Gatesville, Texas.
A statement from the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, obtained by U.S. Newsweek, confirmed that “the parole panel decided to deny parole to Yolanda Saldivar and set her next parole review for March 2030.”
“While nothing can bring Selena back, this decision once again proves that justice is still done for the beautiful lives that were taken away from us and millions of fans around the world too soon,” the Quintanillas said on Instagram at the time. “Selena’s legacy is one of love, music and inspiration. She lived a life of joy and selfless devotion and continues to inspire generations with her voice and spirit.”
