The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office announced in a statement Press release On Friday, February 13, they learned that Kot would be moving from Illinois to Fort Lauderdale in the fall of 2025.
“He lived with Florita Stolyar’s daughter, Larissa Blyudoy, until the two separated in late 2025,” the release read. “A review of Kurt’s cellphone records did not reveal any apparent triggering events prior to the shooting involving Larissa or any of her family members.”
Additionally, police said there is no record that Cote had previously lived at Stoyal’s Fallcrest residence in Sarasota or cared for the family’s animals in the months before the fatal shooting.
Investigators also confirmed that Cote met the family’s housekeeper, Grenate, at least once before the incident.
Authorities executed a search warrant on Cote’s vehicle and found two handguns, ammunition, five knives, rope, duct tape and an ax, according to the release. In addition to the two handguns that Kot had with him when he entered the Fallcrest residence, weapons were also found in the vehicle.
“Investigators determined that after killing Jaroslav Blyudoy, the son of Olga Grenate and Florita Stolyar, Kurt sent a suicidal text message to his family,” the release said. “He then remained at the Fallcrest residence until Florita and her husband, Anatoly Ioffe, returned home. Upon their arrival, both men were shot to death. Kurt then shot himself.”
Police added that crime scene analysts found more than 20 shell casings inside the residence and determined each victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation into the case is still ongoing.
Officers responded to the Fallcrest home around 12:30 a.m. on February 10. Upon their arrival, authorities found a neighbor performing CPR on a male victim in the front yard of the home. The male victim was moved to another location and later pronounced dead.
Neighbors told police the man’s wife may have been inside the home. They then entered the residence and found two women and two men dead.
As Sarasota police officers were trying to identify the victim and potential suspects, they were contacted by the Fort Lauderdale Police Department to say they were investigating a double homicide. At the time, Fort Lauderdale police said they believed the Sarasota shooting was related to their investigation.
After police identified Cote on surveillance video as driving through a Sarasota neighborhood, the two departments pieced together the killings he committed in Fort Lauderdale before traveling to the Fallcrest address.
