Russian general killed by car bomb in Moscow, officials say

A Russian general has been killed in a car bombing in Moscow, officials said.

Russia’s Investigative Committee said Lieutenant General Fanil Salvarov died on Monday morning after an explosive device planted under a car detonated.

The committee added that Salvarov, 56, was the head of the combat training department of the armed forces.

One theory being investigated is that the bomb was planted with the involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. Ukraine has yet to comment.

Investigators have been dispatched to the scene in a parking lot near an apartment building in the south of the Russian capital.

Images from the area showed a heavily damaged white car with its doors blown out and surrounded by other vehicles in the parking lot.

Since Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, many military officials in the Russian capital have been targeted.

General Jaroslav Moskalik what? Killed in Moscow car bomb attack in Aprilwhile General Igor Kirillov died in December 2024 when a device hidden in his motorcycle was remotely detonated.

A Ukrainian source later told the BBC that Kirillov was killed by Ukrainian security services, although this has never been confirmed by records. As a matter of policy, Ukraine has never officially admitted or claimed responsibility for the targeted attacks.
