Rebecca Gayheart addresses GoFundMe following Eric Dane’s death

Throughout his ALS journey, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same battle.”

The message also read: “We will always miss him and remember him fondly. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he received. The family asks for privacy as they work through this difficult time.”

Dane announced that he has been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s diseasein April 2025, nearly a year after his death. According to the Mayo Clinic, the progressive neurodegenerative disease destroys motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord, causing muscle weakness, atrophy and eventually paralysis. There is currently no known treatment.

On Friday, February 20, McGuinness wrote on Instagram: “My friend of almost two decades brought us together after a brutal battle with ALS. I am a positive person who can think of something hopeful in most situations. This incident breaks my heart.”

McGuinness continued, “COVID and ALS have greatly impacted his working life, and sadly he was unable to leave his family with the resources he had hoped for. A GoFundMe is being created and I will post it on my story for anyone who can help.”
