The meta released new information Muse Spark AI model on Wednesday as part of a major overhaul of its AI efforts. At one point, Meta began posting social media posts on Instagram about their friends using the Meta AI software, presumably to encourage them to download it. It’s been almost a year. I continue to receive text messages from friends warning me that Instagram has informed them that I am on the Meta AI program. This is often seen as loose behavior.

To access the Meta AI app, you need to log in with a Meta account – so, I logged in using the account I’ve had since I was a teenager, which connects to my Instagram and Facebook. So, if I told Meta AI about my menstrual cycle, Instagram could show me long-term ads.
The Meta AI app did not ask for permission to inform the public about my use of the app, nor did it ask me if I wanted my AI chats to be used as advertising fodder. But it doesn’t have to be, because I may have made an implicit choice in a service agreement that I didn’t read. I mean, I also learned via Instagram that my brother was incredibly invested in Eurovision last year, as we could all see his favorite Reels. We all know a lot about each other, but Meta knows more.
In a way, I’m lucky that the only thing people know about the use of Meta AI is that I was on the program. Some users unwittingly shared incriminating information: their AI chat.
As a veteran of the Meta AI program, I can tell you that in my days (during the summer), Meta tested the Discover feed on the program. Meta has never counted on the fact that so many boomers use his software, and sometimes they are bad at using the technology. Combine this with the fact that, since AI is not real, people will use chatbots to discuss things they find too intimate or too embarrassing to share with others. Then, you have disaster on your hands.
