A new set of major Pokémon games is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027, marking the 10th installment in the series.
To celebrate the release of the first Pokémon game 30 years ago, the company unveiled Pokémon Wind and Pokémon Waves, an open-world game set in a large archipelago.
Three new Pokémon starters were also announced: Browt, a Grass type “bean” that looks like a Bird of Prey; Pombon, the Fire version of the Pomeranian well not transformed into a bipedal man; and Gecqua, a Water-type gecko with large pink eyes.
The leakers said rumours that the new game is set in a region inspired by Indonesia and Southeast Asia – while the trailer does not clearly confirm this, it makes a good case to prove that the rumors are correct, showing us green forests, coastal mountains, tropical villages, and even underwater reefs. Fans have also done well on a a suspicious looking cloud in the trailer, which looks like a Gyarados-slash-Lapras flying through the air – perhaps a nod to the legendary Pokémon?
Pokemon already explored the tropical island in the “Sun and Moon” inspired game in Hawaii, which came out almost 10 years ago, but there is still a ton to explore there, especially now that the franchise is embracing open maps. Not all tropical islands are the same!
The main Pokémon games are usually released in November, which means we have almost two years to wait before exploring this new region… It seems like a long time ago. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet it came out in 2022. But when the game came out, fans criticized it for feeling rushed and full of challenges. So if a later release date means we’ll get something amazing, I’m happy to wait.
In the meantime, Pokémon fans can also purchase the Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen games today on Switch… It’s too bad it’s not available very simple and legally questionable a way to get the game on your phone for free.
