An Ohio predator used a mother’s secret security door to sexually assault a girl in the bathroom of a Five Below store, according to police.
Robert DeWeese He faces felony charges of rape, kidnapping and other charges stemming from the alleged incident that occurred on February 6 in southern Lebanon.
Dewes, 37, tricked his way into the bathroom by imitating the distinctive knocking sound his mother made her daughter hear.
Warren County prosecutors say the mother told a 6-year-old girl she was going to buy her some new pants after the child had an accident at a store. David Fornshell.
“She told her daughter that she was going to get her pants and lock the door until she heard a distinctive knock on the door, and then she described to the girl what the distinctive knock on the door was,” the prosecutor said, according to media reports.
According to investigators, the man eavesdropped on his mother’s instructions. Dewes then allegedly used a knock on the door to enter the store’s bathroom and sexually assaulted the little girl. WLWT Report.
The girl yelled to stop, which frightened the alleged attacker who fled the area.
The victim’s mother called 911, according to audio of the call provided by WLWT.
“My daughter was in the bathroom. She had an accident. I went to see if I could find her replacement clothes while she was in the bathroom,” the mom said. “She said that while she was inside, a gentleman knocked on the door, came in and touched her and she yelled for help. She yelled for him to stop.”
DeWeese was later found at a relative’s home, WLWT reported. Fornshell said he was released from prison just three days ago.
DeWeese reportedly has sex crime convictions in multiple Ohio counties. He was recently sentenced to three years in prison for a parole violation related to a child sex crime, WLWT reported.
“This man was a serial sex offender and sexually assaulted, and he had only been out for three days when he attacked this 6-year-old girl,” Fornshell said, according to WLWT.
DeWeese was charged with first-degree felony rape, as well as felony charges of aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping and kidnapping, according to records.
Fornshell is being held in the Warren County Jail on $1 million bail, according to a Facebook post.
As of Sunday, March 8, it was unclear whether DeWeese had retained an attorney who could speak on his behalf regarding the allegations. DeWeese has not yet been asked to enter a plea to the charges he faces.
