Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said on Saturday that the latest report of a conflict between his company and OpenAI was “nonsense”.
Huang’s comments came after The Wall Street Journal published a story on Friday over the weekend saying so Nvidia wants to reduce its costs in OpenAI. The two companies announced plans in September Nvidia has invested $100 billion in OpenAI and build 10 gigawatts of infrastructure for the AI industry.
However, the WSJ said Huang has begun to stress that the deal is not binding, and has privately criticized OpenAI’s business model and expressed concerns about competitors such as Anthropic and Google.
The WSJ also reported that the two companies are reconsidering their relationship – although this does not mean that they will slow things down, and the latest talks are said to be focused on the sale of Nvidia’s billions.
An OpenAI spokesperson told the WSJ that the company is “working hard on the details of our agreement,” adding that Nvidia has “supported what we’ve done from the beginning, is supporting our systems today, and will remain at the center as we develop what’s to come.”
According to Bloomberg, reporters asked Huang about the report during a visit to Taipei. In response, insisted that Nvidia “will be involved” in OpenAI’s latest funding “because it’s a very good investment,” according to Bloomberg.
“We will invest more,” Huang said. “I believe in OpenAI. The work they do is amazing. It’s one of the most important companies of our time.”
