Wednesday, February 11th, radar online shared footage of Curtis, 49, using the n-word while completing a renovation project for the hit home restoration series. The slur was caught on camera but was not aired when it aired in June 2025, RadarOnline reported.

“HGTV recently became aware of offensive racial comments that were made during the filming of ‘Rehab Junk.’ Such language is not only hurtful and disappointing to our viewers, partners and employees, but is inconsistent with HGTV’s values,” HGTV told us weekly in a statement on Wednesday. “As a result, we have removed the episode from all HGTV platforms. We remain committed to fostering a culture of respect and inclusion across our content and workplace.”
After news of the show’s cancellation broke, Curtis sent her a message Instagram Stories Wednesday, “There’s more to this, but my family comes first and I need to be a mom more than anything else right now… I’m going to spend time with you, be transparent and honest. TMZ called me because I just turned on my phone after school – and I said this briefly – but there’s more…”
In a subsequent Instagram Story, Curtis shared a text exchange with TMZ in which she addressed her use of racial slurs and recovering addictof sudden cancellation.
“As for HGTV, I am grateful for the 15-year journey we have been on together. It has been a meaningful chapter, but my focus is not on my career,” she wrote to TMZ. “At this moment, my focus is on my relationships and my community — the people who truly understand who I am and where my heart is.”
Curtis continued: “I want to be clear: that word is wrong, it’s not part of my vocabulary and it never has been, and I apologize to everyone.”

“As discussed, I’m a mom and I do mommy stuff all day and I’m unplugged,” Curtis concluded. “I realize my show is on the air, but my family is my priority and I’m catching up on it all right now.”

“Why? This is the last one,” she said in the video, appearing to struggle with the renovations. “Oh, fart (the word).”
Curtis seemed shocked by her use of insulting language and asked the crew to delete the footage.
“What on earth did I just say?” she said. “Can you kill it?” she asked, as someone appeared to laugh in the background.
Curtis then said: “Fuck my life.”
