NFL alum Jordan Shipley in ‘critical’ condition after ranch fire

Shipley’s family confirmed on Tuesday, January 6, that he was injured after a machine he was operating “caught fire”.

“Jordan was involved in an accident this afternoon near his hometown of Burnet,” the senior associate athletic director at the University of Texas said in a statement. John Biancowhich states Shipley was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Shipley, 40, managed to free himself from the machine but “suffered severe burns to his body in the process” before he was able to get medical help. Shipley was airlifted to a hospital near Austin.

“He was located by a worker on the ranch who drove him to a local hospital,” the statement continued. “He was subsequently flown to Austin where he is listed in critical but stable condition.”

“Please pray that he makes a full recovery and that he doesn’t develop infections or other issues during his recovery,” he wrote on Instagram on Tuesday. “I don’t want to give out all the details, except that by the grace of God and a pure will to live, his life was spared today. I believe prayer works, so I’m asking everyone to lift Jordan up in prayer.”

Jordan’s father, Bob Shipley, Then shared an update on Tuesday, writing via Facebook His son required multiple surgeries. “The biggest threats right now appear to be infections and pneumonia,” he wrote.

Prior to entering the NFL, Jordan served as a wide receiver and returner for the Longhorns from 2006 to 2009. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2010 and also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jacksonville Jaguars before retiring in 2014. He has since spent time with his family in Texas.

Jordan married wife Sonny Leigh Shipley 2011. The couple, who have two children together, celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary in May 2024 via Instagram.

Some of our dear friends @samshack10 and @jillshack10 who we admire so much told us to make sure we celebrate our anniversary in style!” Sunny wrote at the time. “So we do this every year and it’s something we look forward to! Sonny’s recent social media posts show the family celebrating Christmas before Jordan’s accident.

“The memories made in December will last a lifetime!” she wrote. “A huge thank you to our beloved friends, family and community. Happy New Year!”
