Alex (affectionately known as Tia Alex to Mets fans) announced her decision in an open letter via Instagram shortly before deactivating her account on Tuesday, January 6.
“Tia is out,” the letter began. “This will be my last post for @tiaalexnymets. I have really enjoyed sharing moments with my fans over the past few years that they might not otherwise have access to. My only resolution this year is to spend less time on my phone and social media and more time in my own life.”
She also revealed that her son is getting married this year and she is “becoming a grandmother for the first time.”
Alex Rodriguez shared a cryptic message shortly after his ex-fiancée Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from husband Ben Affleck. Rodriguez, 49, read the quote on The Concept’s Instagram on Tuesday, August 20, “You either go one way or you decide your direction.”
Alex and Steve married in 1992 and have four children. Alex also has a son from a previous marriage, and Steve has two children from his first wife, Patricia Finkhe was married to her from 1979 to 1990.
“I’ve made lifelong friends through Instagram and love peeking into your lives, and for that I’m forever grateful,” she added.
“The Mets will always be a priority, and so will the fans,” Alex continued. “If you see me in person, please don’t hesitate to say hello – I really enjoy these moments. If you would like to contact me, you are welcome to send Citi Field a note via snail mail (please note that all mail will be monitored).”
This isn’t Alex’s first social media hiatus. She posted a similar letter after the 2025 regular season, saying she would be logging out of her account to “recharge and refocus” after the team’s shocking collapse. Out of the playoffs.
“The season did not end the way we had hoped and like you, we are disappointed not to make the playoffs,” she wrote at the time. “Nonetheless, our confidence in this team remains as strong as ever.”
She continued, “Most importantly, we are deeply grateful to you, our fans. Your passion, energy and unwavering support have carried us through every high and every low. Having this team is about more than baseball; it is about being part of a community that collectively believes in something greater than the game itself.”
“Thank you for standing with us this season,” Alex concluded. “We will be back, stronger and hungrier than ever. Until then – keep believing, keep cheering, and know how much we appreciate you.”
The Mets finished the season with an 83-79 record, tied for the final wild-card spot, but missed the playoffs. They have lost 13 of their last 20 games.
To make matters worse, the New York Mets spent heavily on high-end talent for the 2025 season, including signing free agent outfielders, only to end up disappointing Juan Soto Beat out the rival New York Yankees in a deal worth $765 million.
As always, the Mets will enter the 2026 season with extremely high expectations, but if the Mets want to return to the playoffs, they have to go without Pete Alonsothe face of the franchise for the past five years. Alonso, 31, signed with the Baltimore Orioles as a free agent this offseason.
