Mom finds haunting thing among University of Idaho murder victim’s belongings


Mother of slain University of Idaho student Kelly Gonsalves After finally receiving a dozen boxes full of her late daughter’s belongings from state investigators, she shared a heartbreaking video online.

Christie GonsalvesHer voice started to crack as she shared that while going through Kelly’s property, she discovered the University of Idaho sweatshirt that Kelly was wearing in a video taken outside a food truck hours before she was murdered.

This video is part of Moscow, Idaho Live, hosted by food truck operator Grub Truckers.

In the video, Kelly can be seen with her roommate and lifelong best friend, Madison Morgan. In the photo, the girls waltzed to the truck and ordered a plate of pasta after a night out with friends. The video shows the girls chatting and laughing while waiting for their food, which lasted 10 minutes.

The clip was filmed between 1:33 and 1:43 a.m. on November 13, 2022.

“I just saw that sweatshirt she was wearing that night,” Christie explained, holding up the crumpled garment.

Christy then said she found something in the pocket of her sweatshirt: a receipt from Kelly’s food truck order.

She then unfolded the receipt for Order 78, which showed the company name and a timestamp of 1:42 a.m.

Christy started breathing in the sweatshirt and crying into it.

She explained that the sweatshirt was the first Kaylee item she found in the box, besides the Sublime T-shirt. Finding food receipts “just takes you back to those hours, those hours before that…they didn’t know what was going to happen.”

The Gonsalves family also shared a screenshot of a text message that was sent to Kelly’s phone from the food truck operator at 1:05 p.m., asking simply, “Are you okay?” The message was sent a minute after a district-wide text message was sent to University of Idaho students and staff about the killings.

Kelly was 21 when she and three of her roommates were murdered by Washington State University graduate students Brian Koberg. Earlier on November 13, 2022, Kohberger broke into the home Kaylee shared with Mogen, also 21, and killed them and their college sweetheart Knodel and Ethan ChapinThe pair, both 20 years old, fled the scene.

He initially pleaded not guilty to murder but later changed his plea to avoid the death penalty. Koberg was sentenced to four consecutive life sentences in July, plus an additional 10 years for burglary.

Koberg never revealed his motive for the crime, leaving the actual crime a source of speculation.

Koberg is serving his sentence at Idaho’s only maximum-security prison, which has a capacity of 535 inmates, according to the Idaho Department of Corrections website. Koberg has made multiple complaints to prison staff since arriving at the prison in August. The strict vegetarian raised questions about prison food and reported being teased and sexually harassed by other inmates.
