Mom arrested after baby ejected and killed in Texas car crash


A Texas mother has been arrested after running a red light, resulting in the death of her baby who was thrown from the car in a crash.

Officers from the Fort Worth Police Department arrested the baby’s mother, cara lopezshortly after the accident in early March. Lopez, 17, was later charged with reckless endangerment of a child resulting in serious bodily injury.

The baby, also identified as Sebastian Reyes, was 6 months old at the time of the accident.

The infant was unrestrained in the vehicle and was ejected from the vehicle upon impact. Officials said Reyes suffered serious injuries and emergency crews transported the baby to a nearby hospital. Medical staff at the hospital tried to save his life, but Sebastian eventually succumbed to his injuries.

The baby’s mother was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. After receiving treatment, she was arrested and jailed.

It was unclear whether Lopez had entered a plea or retained legal representation following his arrest. Fort Worth Police Department told us They had no other statement to share at the time of publication.

Police have not yet released the condition of the other person involved in the crash.

No further details about the investigation have been released, and it’s unclear whether additional charges may be filed against Lopez. The incident remains under investigation and officials are continuing to review the circumstances leading up to the crash.

Additionally, the law states that anyone 14 years of age or younger is considered a child.

Sentencing for the charges is based on the degree of the crime.
