The Bahamas is searching for a missing American woman whose husband reported she fell from a boat and was swept away by “strong currents,” police said.
The man, who is also from the United States, said, Wife is missing According to the Royal Bahamas Police Force, they traveled in an 8-foot “hard-bottomed” dinghy from the town of Hope to Elbow Island in the Abaco Islands on the evening of Saturday, April 4.
“While on the trip, his wife reportedly fell into the ocean with the boat keys, causing the boat’s engine to shut down,” police said in a news release on Sunday, April 5.
The man told police the current swept his wife away until he could no longer see her, according to authorities.
That’s when he reported that he began paddling the boat ashore and eventually arrived at the Marsh Harbor Boatyard on Great Abaco Island around 4 a.m. on April 5, police said. That’s when he allegedly reported his wife missing.
Abaco police, the Royal Bahamas Defense Force and Hope Township Fire and Rescue are searching for the missing woman, according to police.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force did not release the names of the woman or her husband.
The agency is asking the public to come forward with any information related to the investigation into the April 4 disappearance of an American woman.
“Police are asking the public to come forward with information that could assist with the investigation. If you have relevant details, please contact 911, 919, your nearest police station or Criminal Investigations. Anonymous tips are also welcome through Crime Stoppers at 328-TIPS (8477),” authorities said in a news release.
