Minnesota man kills estranged partner and her 5-year-old son


A Lexington, Minnesota, man has been charged in connection with the murder of his estranged partner. Jennifer Sue Marceauand her 5-year-old son, Marzai Andrew Dawson.

Owen Van Masso Charged with two counts of second-degree murder. His first court appearance is scheduled for Friday, March 20.

When authorities arrived, they found Jennifer, 44, dead with a gunshot wound to the chest. At the same time, Malzai was found shot in the torso and arm. He was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy found that Jennifer was shot in the chest at close range and Malzai was shot in the back at close range.

The child who called 911 said she and her two siblings went for a walk but came home after hearing several “bangs.” She told investigators her brother ran into the home and saw Owen coming out with a gun.

Owen ran into a shed inside the house and the boys ran outside and screamed that their mother and brother had been shot. The children then ran to a neighbor’s house and called 911.

At approximately 1:33 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, authorities located Irving and arrested him. According to court documents, investigators found a 9mm handgun in nearby woods at the time of his arrest.

After being taken into custody, Owen made several comments about the murders, reportedly suggesting they were committed “in the heat of passion.”

Meanwhile, the child who called 911 told investigators that Owen had a history of beating her mother and that he had done so as recently as March 3.

Shortly before the murder, Jennifer kicked Owen out of the house during an argument over a knife. The girl also recalled a conversation in which Jennifer told Owen she was going to court over their problems.

Jennifer filed a harassment restraining order petition against Irving in November 2025, in which she alleged that Irving “threatened to harm me if I didn’t tell him where I lived.”

She also claimed in the petition that he made death threats against her and her children. “He made demands and threatened to cut off all my food support and disability benefits,” she added, according to the outlet.

Jennifer asked the court for another restraining order in February. “He threatened to kill my children and myself,” she wrote, adding that he would enter her home without permission.

Both restraining orders were issued by a judge. However, records show that Jennifer asked for both letters to be fired about a month after they were sent.

It was unclear whether Irving had entered a plea or retained legal representation following his arrest. The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office did not provide further details when contacted. US Weekly.
