“I felt like there was a lot to prepare for, so I was in this constant state of panic trying to make sure I thought of everything,” McBee shared of plans to drive to Yankton on Sunday, Nov. 30 and spend the night. “There will be some loose ends that are left out, but I would say most of all the major items are covered. I mean, it’s definitely an experience that I never thought I would have.”

McBee noted that Chrisley gave him “1,000 pieces of advice” about what to expect in prison. (Todd and his wife, Julie Chrisleywas convicted in 2022 of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, conspiracy to defraud the United States, and tax fraud. )

“We’ve been talking for hours,” McBee said. “He doesn’t owe me anything, and he texts me every other day, like, ‘Dude, look at you. How are you feeling today? It’s going to be okay. Everything’s going to be okay. We’re going to get through this. I’m going to do whatever I can to help you.'”

McBee praises Todd for staying in touch with him his four sons: Steven Jr., Jesse, Cole and Brayden.

“Todd was texting all my kids and telling them everything was going to be okay,” he continued. “I really can’t tell you enough good things. I don’t care. Everybody has a past, but I know who that person is today, and for him to keep taking his time, that’s special. Steven also talked to (Chrisley’s daughter) Savannah multiple times.”

While serving their sentences, Todd and Julie insisted that they were innocent and, with the help of their daughter Savannah, eventually obtained completely absolved president donald trump in May. McBee hopes for similar results.

“I’ve been meeting with pardon attorneys, I had a long meeting on Friday and then I spent four hours with them on Monday,” McBee explained. “We’re putting it all together to fill out the application and turn everything in.”

“I have never been a victim, I will not be a victim, and I will not let anyone make me a victim,” he added. “I’ve always believed the glass is half full. Life is unfair sometimes for no reason. Good things happen to bad people and bad things happen to good people. I’m going to get better and I’m going to keep working hard. I’m just going to do the best I can in a bad situation.”

Looking ahead, McBee hopes to have the same impact on others that Todd has, saying, “It’s such an inspiration. When I’m done with this, my path forward is probably to really try to lead the next generation to keep family farms (viable), and that really comes back to the consumer. There are so many ways they can support local farms.”

He concluded: “Obviously, we hope for the best and pray for the best, but the storm is finally over. Captains don’t become skilled captains on calm water, they learn how to navigate in storms. This is certainly a Category 5 hurricane, but when the storm breaks out, you smell fresh, clean air. We’re starting to get out of the way, so I’m feeling better.”
