Man texts mother-in-law ‘Satan got me’ after killing wife

An Idaho man who police said killed his estranged wife later sent his mother a text message apologizing for his actions and explaining to her, “Satan got me,” according to reports.

Christopher MoonThe 43-year-old shot and killed his 23-year-old wife, Cassandra Klingerdied on the morning of Wednesday, January 21st. Police confirmed that Moon Jae-in subsequently committed suicide.

“You’re right,” Moon wrote, according to screenshots of the exchange shared by the family. cowboy state daily. “Satan, got me. I’m sorry, I love her so much.”

When the text message came, Cassandra’s mother, Cynthiaand the divorced couple’s three children in their rural home in Liberty Township, just west of the Idaho-Wyoming border.

Moon also sent other messages to Cynthia urging her to take care of her children, ages 4, 2 and the newborn.

“Don’t do it,” Cynthia replied in the text message, according to Cowboy State Daily. “Your kids need you. All of them.”

“Just tell them we love them and take care of our children,” Moon replied. “We know they’re in good hands with you, (Jared), you’re awesome.”

According to a statement from the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Department, Moon called 911 before beginning to text Cynthia, saying he had just shot his wife.

Moon told the 911 dispatcher “he had a gun” and was about to commit suicide.

According to Cowboy State Daily, Cynthia called 911 herself and a SWAT team arrived in the area.

Responding police officers managed to have a brief phone conversation with Moon and told him to surrender peacefully. Soon after, law enforcement announced that Moon was dead.

Deputies found their bodies inside a parked car.

The eldest of the five Klinger sisters, Alexa EdwardsTelling Cowboy State Daily, red flags arose after Cassie moved in with Christopher the week of her high school graduation. She claims he lashed out at her over money and may have been physically, mentally and verbally abusive.

The door to their home was broken down and Christopher allegedly screamed at Cassie.

Moon had no previous domestic violence charges but did violate a domestic violence protection order in 2005, when he was his wife’s age.

The couple welcomed their first child in 2021, when Cassie was 19. Cassie gave birth to their second son in June 2023.

But Cassie left in 2024, prompting Christopher to propose. They got married in July 2024 and gave birth to their third child in August 2025. Cassie suffered from postpartum depression. A week after Thanksgiving in 2025, Cassie left Christopher for the final time and moved in with her parents, with Christopher allegedly calling her “worthless.”

Cassie obtained a protective order against Christopher, but the court later allowed him to interact with her in situations involving the children. Soon after, Cassie discovers a tracking device in her car.

According to the website, Cassie filed for divorce on December 30, 2025 and was awarded primary custody of the children. In her petition, she urged the court to grant Christopher “reasonable visitation rights.”

Christopher Moon acknowledged in a reply filed on Jan. 6 that they had irreconcilable differences.

Alexa calls her sister “the best mom. She doesn’t always think that, but she’s a really good mom.”

Alex hopes Cassie’s story serves as a reminder for people to check in on each other and their loved ones about red flags in relationships.

“They may not want to hear it, but at some point, the seed is planted,” Alexa said. “Our system is broken but we just need to raise awareness. Because silence is the reason domestic violence continues to happen.”
