A Pennsylvania man awaiting trial in the premature death of his infant son is back in police custody with new charges after a domestic dispute that allegedly turned violent.

During a subsequent investigation, instructions regarding safe sleeping practices for infants were found in the home. Investigators also found items in his crib, including blankets, stuffed animals and a “blue baby lounger.” (according to American Academy of Pediatrics Guidelines for safe sleeping, baby sleeping surfaces should be kept bare and free of blankets, stuffed animals or pillows. )
Strauss and his wife, whose names were not released, were both charged with manslaughter about a year after the baby’s death.
A Denver, Colorado, man is in custody on suspicion of murder and child abuse in connection with the death of a two-year-old child. While awaiting trial on March 23, Strauss once again had a run-in with law enforcement when his wife called 911 to accuse him of domestic violence.
She claimed they had both been drinking that night and a verbal argument ensued.
“The victim reported that it began at a local bar the night before,” the District Attorney’s Office said in a news release. lebanon daily news. “Strauss drank multiple bottles of whiskey. They got into an argument over the victim’s ex-boyfriend. The victim and Strauss went home.”
At one point, Strauss allegedly pushed his wife onto the bed and then hit her in the face with the gun. When she tried to escape to the basement to call the police, she claimed he followed her. Dispatchers said they could hear a man yelling, “This is how you want it to end, get out!” in the background of the wife’s 911 call. The wife then claimed he took her phone and “smashed it.”
While she was eventually able to run out of the home and into her car, she claimed she heard gunshots as she left the residence. Authorities later confirmed there was evidence her vehicle had been struck by gunfire.
“Departments were on scene for several hours during negotiations” after Straus’ wife fled their property, the release said. Initially, Strauss “refused to exit or stop,” and “state police were forced to close the public road for safety and to ensure the safety of the surrounding area.” However, he eventually surrendered and was arrested around 9 a.m. that day.
In addition to the manslaughter charge, Straus now faces other charges including simple assault, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.
“Domestic violence incidents are always the most dangerous for both the victim and the police,” Lebanon County District Attorney Pierre Hess Graf said in a statement. “They represent a heated argument filled with emotion and without reason. The victim was lucky to escape without being shot; the numerous state troopers on scene were also lucky to be able to do so.”
Strauss’ next court appearance is Thursday, February 12.
