Hunsaker is also accused of trying to poison his daughter with the same substance that killed his wife. It is alleged that after he exposed his daughter to the substance, she began to suffer from multiple health conditions.
Prosecutors said the state was concerned about the safety of Hunsaker’s children and Stacey’s parents, according to court documents seen by the outlet.
At a court hearing on Monday, April 6, a judge revoked Hunsucker’s bail and sent him back to jail. Hunsuk also pleaded not guilty to all charges he faces during his court appearance.
Additionally, during a recent hearing, prosecutors announced that some of the charges Hunsucker faces will be tried separately. They added that Stacey’s murder trial could begin on September 8.
Prosecutors said they believed Hunsaker poisoned his wife to collect her life insurance money and accused him of trying to do the same to his and Stacey’s 11-year-old daughter.
Back in December 2019, it was revealed that a family friend had started a GoFundMe campaign to help Stacey cope with ongoing health issues that began in February 2013.
After Stacey’s death, Hunsaker refused to perform an autopsy and said he did not want her to be “dismembered,” according to an affidavit. abc news.
However, investigators discovered that Stacy was an organ donor at Lifeshare Donation Center and they obtained preserved blood samples. After testing the samples, they found high levels of tetrahydrozoline in her system, about 30 to 40 times higher than therapeutic levels.
“This drug has a dramatic effect on your heart and can cause cardiac arrest or heart failure,” North Carolina prosecutor Jordan Green said at the 2019 hearing.
Hunsaker told police at least four different versions of what he had done before finding Stacey not breathing, and his work as a paramedic also implicated him in the death, the affidavit said.
“Josh Hunsaker was a flight paramedic for Medcenter Air and his training and experience certainly gave him a thorough understanding of various types of drugs and how they react in the body,” the affidavit states. “In addition, his job gave him access to non-controlled substances that did not require logging or inventory control.”
