Luma, an AI video powered by a16z and 3D modeling company, released a a new example called Ray3 Modify which allows users to modify existing images by providing rendering images that retain the original image quality. Users can also provide a start and end point to guide the model to create dynamic graphics.
The company said Thursday that Ray3 Modify solves the problem of maintaining human performance while editing or creating effects using AI for production studios. Founders said the model follows a well-documented model, allowing studios to use actors for production or filming. Luma said that the new model maintains his movements, timing, eye line, and emotions while changing the scene.
With Ray3 Modify, users can provide a description to change it to the original image and change the character’s appearance to that character. The book also allows designers to save information such as costumes, looks, and what they know about drawing.
In addition, users can also assign start and end frames to create a video using the new Ray3 Modify feature. This is useful for designers to control transitions or control motion or behavior while maintaining continuity between images.
“Animated scenes are incredibly complex and difficult to control. Today, we are happy to introduce Ray3 Modify, which combines the real world with AI features while giving full control to the creators. This means that production teams can record actors with a camera and immediately change them to be in any imaginable position, change clothes, or go back and change the AI scene, re-shoot the scene,” Co-founder and CEO of Luma AI, said in a statement.
Luma said the new version is available to users through the company’s Dream Machine platform. The company, which competes with the likes of Runway and Kling, was released the ability to edit videos in June 2025.
The release of the model comes on the back of $900 million in new capitalled by Saudi Arabia’s AI company Humain’s AI Public Investment Fund, the startup announced in November. Existing investors like a16z, Amplify Partners, and Matrix Partners also participated in the round. The startup is also planning to build a 2GW AI cluster in Saudi Arabia with Humain.
