Luke Combs Opened up about his fears about using diet pills.
“One of my biggest fears is that maybe I won’t be able to get the shot because of how I look,” Combs, 35, told the show on Tuesday, Feb. 24. new york times“”pop radio“Podcast.” You know what I mean? Like, that’s a hard pill to swallow because you can’t really change the way you look. “
Combs added that he often considered changing himself after “always struggling with his weight,” but he kept putting it off.
“It bothers me so much and I can’t figure it out,” the country singer continued.
Combs added that he “doesn’t want[his]life to be easy and everything is easy. I like it when things are difficult.”
As a result, Combs avoids diet pills.
“These things scare me instead of enjoying the benefits,” he explains. “I feel like I’ve never done anything difficult in my life, like, I didn’t go out and dig trenches, man, like it wasn’t that hard of a job.”
Combs concluded, “This is like a tough nut to crack for me. I’m going to do it, but I’m not going to take shortcuts. It’s not like there’s anything wrong with it. It’s personal to you. I need to win, like, I need to beat myself.”

“Obviously I’ve been working on this record for a long time and my lead single (‘Back in the Saddle’) is out. I’m just so excited, man,” the “Beer Never Broke My Heart” singer wrote on Instagram at the time. “A great day. A great day to be alive. Lost 30 pounds kid. Great job. Missed a lot of cake on my birthday.”
Combs has been candid about her desire to lose weight since welcoming sons Tex Lawrence in June 2022 and Beau Lee in August 2023 with wife Nicole. The couple welcomed their third child, son Chet, earlier this month.
“Having a baby really messed with my health in the best way,” he said in a 2022 interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music. “I want to be around, man.”
Combs later shared an update on his weight loss during a 2023 appearance Joe RoganPodcast.
“I think my physical fitness, my appearance and my body shape have always been something that I’ve struggled with since I was a kid. I’ve always been at the bottom of this mountain, trying to run up, but it would just slide down every time,” he admits. “I feel like if I don’t get over this in my life, it will be my biggest regret, without a doubt.”
Combs, who suffers from anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), has taken serious steps to improve his health and reduce symptoms, including going gluten-free in 2024.
“Since eliminating this, man, it’s changed my spiritual life,” he said of the change in diet in an interview with ABC News. “I had no intention of, like, man, I should try to lose weight.”
Combs also told the media that he hopes to continue to achieve his health goals.
“Longevity is the goal. Every day you spend with these people is very interesting and difficult, and you need to be the best version of yourself and care for them in the way that you feel they deserve to be cared for,” he continued. “It’s been a long process, man. It’s been a long road. It’s been tough. It’s been a challenge, man. I’m fighting for it every day.”
