olympic skier Lindsay Vonn is sharing a new, grainy photo of herself in a devastating crash at the 2026 Winter Olympics that left her with a broken leg.
“I’m literally bionic now,” Vaughn, 41, shared on Friday, February 20. Post viaand X-rays of her legs.
X-rays showed her fracture was wrapped by what looked like a medal-stabilizing brace.
“As you can see, it took a lot of boards and screws to put back together, but Dr. Hackett did a great job,” Vaughn Post via Instagram On Friday, there was also a carousel of videos and X-rays of her at the hospital. “Thank you also to Dr. Viola for your surgical assistance!”
She continued, “I’ve been struggling a bit post-op due to the severity of the trauma and haven’t been discharged yet… almost. Baby steps. I’ll be explaining the injuries and what it all means soon.”
Vaughn suffered left tibia fracture On February 8, when she competed in the Olympic downhill race, she had just clocked 13 seconds. She was airlifted from the stadium in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. She underwent four surgeries in Italy after the accident. She returned to the United States on Tuesday, February 17, and underwent several additional surgeries.
“Just a quick update…my last surgery went great,” Vonn shared in another Friday post. “It took more than 6 hours. I have recovered from the surgery, but the pain is difficult to control. Progress is slow, but I hope I can be discharged from hospital soon. Thank you everyone for your support.”
Earlier this week, Vaughan shared She hasn’t stood up yet For more than a week, she continued to recover from the horrific injuries.
“I’ve been lying in a hospital bed motionless since the game,” she wrote via X on Monday, February 16. “Even though I can’t stand yet, it feels great to be back home #imhome.”
She added: “Thank you so much to everyone in Italy for looking after me.”
Days after returning to the United States, Vonn revealed that she was not only recovering physically, but also mentally. Her dog Leo died The day after she broke her leg.
“It’s been an extremely difficult few days. Probably the hardest days of my life,” Vaughn shared on Instagram on Wednesday, February 18. “I haven’t come to terms with the fact that he passed away… The day I crashed, Leo also passed away. He had recently been diagnosed with lung cancer (he had survived lymphoma a year and a half ago), but now his heart was failing. He was in pain and his body could no longer keep up with his strong will.”
She continued, “The day after the crash, as I lay in my hospital bed, we said goodbye to my older boy,” Vaughn said. “I’ve lost so much that meant so much to me in such a short period of time. I can’t believe it. Since my second ACL injury, my son has been by my side when I needed him the most. He held me on the couch while I watched the Sochi Olympics. He picked me up when I was down. He lay (sic) beside me, (hugged) me and always made me feel safe and loved. We’ve been through so much together in 13 years.”
On January 30, just nine days before the Olympics, Vonn tore her ACL while competing in the World Cup in Switzerland. Regardless, she decided to compete in the Olympics and later claimed she had injured her ACL Nothing to do with the accident That broke her leg.
“When my right arm got hooked inside the door, my rope was 5 inches too tight, twisting me and causing my car accident,” she shared on Instagram after the accident. “My ACL and past injuries were not related to my car accident. Unfortunately, I suffered a complex tibial fracture which is currently stable but required multiple surgeries to repair properly.”
