Daniel Nissenson of Liam Neeson and late Natasha Richardsonis publicly undergoing surgery for a rare congenital heart defect.
“I was born with BAV (bicuspid aortic valve), a condition in which the aortic valve has two leaflets instead of the normal three,” Daniel, 29, wrote in a report. Instagram Posted on Tuesday, March 3rd. “About 2% of the population has this disease, and most people don’t even know it. It can lie dormant for years before starting to cause valve failure or aortic dilatation.”
“For me, I’ve had bi-annual cardiac exams most of my life, monitoring my heart,” Daniel continued. “Eventually, I started to develop severe left ventricular dilation and aortic enlargement. I knew this would require medical intervention. Some people with BAV undergo surgery later in life, but I took advantage of the opportunity.”

“It feels a little surreal to realize that one of your biggest challenges is quietly developing throughout your life. There is no dramatic warning. Just science, genetics, and timing,” he shared.

“I have always prided myself on being able to push the fight and try to control my environment,” Daniel wrote. “This is different…it requires surrender. Being present. Letting go. Trusting world-class surgeons and incredible nurses. Trusting the universe. Trusting that even though I can’t control the outcome, I can control my mindset and deeper awareness.”
“Overcoming this isn’t about being fearless. It’s about relying on healing energy and being in the moment as much as possible. I view this surgery as a ritual, not a procedure,” he continued, thanking his medical team for “the incredible care they provided me.”

“The recovery process is beautiful, patient and rewarding. Always advocate for yourself and listen to your body. Everyone should have their heart checked by a cardiologist, even if they don’t have any known defects,” Daniel wrote.
“Above all, surrender to the moment. Don’t live in fear. The universe has your back as you learn to dance with it,” he concluded.
Liam, 73, has two sons with his late wife Daniel Michael,30.
In Tuesday’s post, Daniel also thanked his fiancée, Natalie Ackermanwho got engaged in September 2025 after eight years of dating.
“This is such an overwhelming feeling of love!!!! I love you Danny and I am so grateful to all our friends and family who made this day so special 🥹 So grateful,” Natalie wrote Instagram then.
