“I pulled out the file, looked at it, and I thought, ‘Are you kidding me?'” Dalby told the station.
While consulting with a forensic examiner, Dalby realized the hit-and-run man’s autopsy photos matched those at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in Pratt, KXAS-TV reported.
Dalby “worked diligently to establish a convincing match between the unidentified victim of a 1973 hit-and-run and the missing Norman Pratt,” Dallas police said.
After making contact, Dalby tracked down Platt’s brother, according to police. Isaac Platt.
“Through this contact, Dalby detectives were able to identify the unknown person as Norman Platt, ultimately solving the Dallas missing person case and the Aransas County unidentified person case,” the department said.
After seeing photos of the body at the scene of the hit-and-run, Isaac Platt confirmed it was his brother, KDFW-TV reported.

While the exact circumstances of Norman Pratt’s disappearance are unclear, Dalby suspects the teen was hitchhiking before he was killed in a hit-and-run crash, KDFW-TV reported.
“This resolution demonstrates the Dallas Police Department’s commitment to the cases we pursue and the families we serve, no matter how much time passes,” said the Dallas Police Chief. Daniel Comeau said in a statement.
“Detective Dalby’s dedication, skill and compassion not only solved a historic case, but fulfilled our missing persons unit’s most important duty: providing closure to grieving families,” Cuomo added.
