Hasbro says it was stolen, and it could take ‘several weeks’ to recover

American toy giant Hasbro has confirmed the cyberattack, with the company saying it could take “several weeks” before the issue is resolved.

The owner of properties including Transformers, Peppe Pig, and Dungeons & Dragons said in a Legally required disclosures and the US Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday that it discovered the intrusion on March 28, which led to the company removing its systems.

Hasbro said it has implemented and continues to implement business continuity plans to allow it to “order, ship products and take other necessary actions to resolve this crisis.”

Shares of Hasbro’s website surfaced on Wednesday, after being spotted by TechCrunch. One error message said the site was “currently under construction.”

The company said it had called in cybersecurity experts to help, but said it was continuing to “implement measures to protect its businesses,” pointing out that the hack was still part of the company’s operations.

It is unclear what type of cyberattack, such as ransomware, was discovered.

When reached by TechCrunch, Hasbro’s spokesperson, Andrea Snyder, reiterated the details of the SEC filing and said that the company “took immediate steps to protect our systems and data,” but would not answer questions about the nature of the cyberattack, or whether the company was in contact with hackers, such as demanding money.
