Greenlanders threaten Trump’s takeover

This week, Donald Trump reiterated his desire to take over Greenland and make it part of the United States, possibly using military force.

BBC Europe editor Katya Adler visited the Arctic island capital of Nuuk to ask locals what they thought about the new threat from the US president.

One Greenlander said she thought Trump was “crazy,” while another said residents “just want to be left alone.”

Against this backdrop, global superpowers are vying for strategic defense capabilities in the Arctic, as well as rare earths and other minerals that have become newly accessible due to melting ice and snow.
