Google’s vibe-coding tool, Opalgoing to Gemini. The company on Wednesday said it is integrating a tool, which allows you to create small AI programs, inside the Gemini web application, allowing users to create their own programs, which Google calls Gems.
Explanation in 2024, Gems are settings Gemini types are designed for specific tasks or activities. For example, some of the Gems already developed by Google include a learning coach, an idea guide, a career guide, a writing companion, and an editor.
Opal, meanwhile, focuses on user support creating mini-programs or mix existing programs. To use this feature, users describe in natural language the program they want to create, and the tool will use the various Gemini models to create it.
Now, Opal is available directly from Gemini online, where it can be found in the Gems manager. The tool has a photo editor which constitute the steps necessary to develop a program. From the editor, users can rearrange steps and link them together, without writing code.
Google says that the image editor also includes a new feature in Gemini that will take the user’s input and turn it into a list of steps. This makes it easy to create programs and see how they work.
For more advanced options, users can switch from Gemini to the Advanced Editor on opal.google.com. Small programs can be reused after they are created.
Known as “vibe-coding,” the use of AI to create software has been gaining popularity over the past few years. The market is now full of startup programs like Beloved and Pointeras well as contributions from AI providers such as Anthropic and OpenAI. There are also tools that focus on consumers, such as who they are from The creator of the AI-powered app Wabi.
The Gemini online program is available at gemini.google.com.
