A former anesthetist has been jailed for life for deliberately poisoning 30 patients, 12 of whom died.
A court in the eastern French city of Besançon found Frédéric Péchier guilty of contaminating an IV bag with a substance that could cause cardiac arrest or bleeding.
Peschier first came under investigation eight years ago when he was suspected of poisoning patients at two clinics in Besançon between 2008 and 2017.
“You are a doctor of death, a poisoner, a murderer. You bring disgrace to all doctors,” prosecutors said last week. “You turned this clinic into a cemetery.”
Pechier has always denied any wrongdoing and now has 10 days to appeal.
