The former director of Patagonia Rose Marcario is stepping down from her position on the board of directors of Rivian, according to a Friday afternoon to stock up.
Rivian wrote in the filing that Marcario’s last day will be Jan. 1, and that he is leaving “to oversee his operations.” Rivian’s board will drop from eight to seven members following his resignation.
Marcario’s departure and resignation from Rivian’s board comes on the eve of an important year for the company. Rivian plans to start selling its most affordable R2 SUV in the first half of 2026. The upcoming R2 should reach a much larger market than the company’s current R1 SUV and pickup truck, and the EV maker has plans to produce hundreds of thousands of them annually, including at a new factory in Georgia. Marcario has been serving on Rivian’s board since January 2021, a role he took after 12 years as president (and CEO) of Patagonia. Before the establishment, CEO of Rivian RJ Scaringe many times he explained he aims to make the company the “Patagonia of EVs.”
Rivian said Friday that Marcario will continue in his role as chairman of the board of trustees that oversees the Rivian Foundation. He works on the team with Scaringe, Rivian CEO Anisa Kamadoli Costa, and environmentalist Ed M. Norton.
Created shortly before the 2021 IPO, the Rivian Foundation was given 1% of the company’s assets to “the natural world” to “participate in (Rivian’s) success”. announced his starting salary of $10 million in 2024.
This year, the Rivian Foundation has announced another $2.6 million for his website.
