Emily Simpson is giving fans an update on son Luke’s health journey, which has seen him undergo laser brain surgery.
“He did (undergo surgery),” Simpson, 49, Exclusive story US Weekly Saturday, November 15, at Bravo Conference 2025 In Las Vegas. “I don’t see a huge difference, so we’re still investigating other things and working with experts and we’re going to try some different things.”
Emily — and her husband have 10-year-old son Luke Sean Simpson — explains that the purpose of the laser is to “reduce swelling in the brain.” (The couple are also parents to Annabelle, 12, and Caleb, 10.)
“This needs to continue,” Emily said of her son’s treatment. “He’s had a few rounds and it hasn’t had that big of an impact. So the question is, do we keep going or do we try something different?”
Emily Simpson is clearing up a cruel assumption about her son’s eating disorder. “I have to say, some people have said negative things about eating disorders and they’re going to link me having surgery to losing weight,” Emily, 49, exclusively shared with Us Weekly on Wednesday, July 16.
Throughout it all, Emily says she has had unwavering support from moms across the country.
“The moms there are amazing,” Emily said. “I’ve received so many testimonials and stories about DMS, so thank you so much from the moms.”
Emily shared earlier this month that Luke will Going through the formalities after he was diagnosed with a childhood autoimmune neuropsychiatric disorder. (The Cleveland Clinic notes that PANDAS is “a group of disorders thought to affect specific children with strep throat.”)
“Yeah, so he’s going to have laser treatment on his brain,” Emily told Andy Cohen earlier this month when asked about the treatment plan.
She continued, “To reduce the swelling in his brain. He asked if the laser would hurt, and I said, ‘No, it won’t hurt.'” So he had to do it for about three hours, five days in a row, to get the swelling down. “

“Luke has always been a picky eater, but last year he wouldn’t eat at all,” Emily shared in a confessional at the time. “He won’t eat anything, but he’s hungry. I’m worried that he’s not getting the nutrients he needs. I’m worried that he’s that weird kid in school who doesn’t eat and everyone is going to make fun of him. I want my kid to be happy. That’s all.”
On an October episode of the Bravo series, Emily explained that an expert has been providing tools and guidance to Luke’s family.
“Luke’s diagnosis is very complex. He has anxiety, ADHD and OCD, as well as learning disabilities and dyslexia, and he needs all of those things,” she said in a confessional at the time. “He’s very smart in some ways, but he’s in fourth grade and I don’t know he can read? I mean, how sad is that?”
