Workers at a Virginia liquor store were shocked when they arrived at work Saturday to find the store had been broken into by a drunk raccoon.
The “masked robber” was found passed out after drinking some alcohol in a bathroom between a toilet and a bin.
Animal Control Officer Samantha Martin transported the “suspect” to Hanover County Animal Control and Shelter for questioning, but not before it had a chance to sober up.
After several hours of sleep and zero signs of injury (other than a hangover), the animal was safely released back into the wild.
The Ashland ABC store is closed over Thanksgiving due to a “Black Friday break-in.”
When staff arrived on Saturday, they found broken bottles and alcohol on the floor, including an apparent selection of Scotch whiskey.
Det Sgt Martin said the animal fell from a tile in the ceiling and went on a “full rampage, drinking everything”.
Only a grainy CCTV image shows the drunken break-in, so we don’t know exactly how much the thirsty creature drank before passing out in the bathroom.
In a social media post, the store thanked Hanover County Animal Care and Sanctuary for their professionalism and providing visitors with a “sober path home.”
Officer Martin said it was “just another day in the life of an animal control officer.”
