A Walt Disney World staff member is “recovering” after being injured by an out-of-control 400-pound (180-kilogram) fake boulder prop in an incident that was captured on video, the Florida theme park confirmed.
The incident occurred during the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Show! While recreating famous scenes from the movie live.
The video shows a staff member jumping into the path of the boulder to prevent it from reaching the crowd as the boulder rolled towards the audience.
“We are focused on supporting our recovering cast members,” Disney said in a statement Wednesday. “Safety is at the core of what we do and this element of the show will be modified once our safety team completes a review of what happened.”
A scene from 1981’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark” shows Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones escaping a booby-trapped boulder and leaping to safety.
Video of Tuesday’s incident shows the boulder bouncing off the track and toward spectators, with a worker blocking its path and being knocked to the ground.
The worker did not appear to stand up immediately and other workers were seen running to him.
According to the park operations blog, the boulder pillar weighs approximately 400 pounds and is made of rubber.
A Disney spokesman did not confirm that the boulder was the cause of the incident, but told BBC America partner CBS News that “a prop went off course.”
