Both men’s and women’s hockey players on Team USA have since spoken out about the incident, including Hughes, who backed up several others’ claims of a close connection between the two Olympic teams.

As for the women’s team, they declined Trump’s invitation to attend the State of the Union address, citing scheduling conflicts as they had only received the invitation days earlier. However, Trump did say in his speech on Tuesday that the women would visit the White House “soon.”
