Data breach at fintech giant Image affects nearly a million customers

The data breach that hit the blockchain-based lending giant Figure affected nearly a million customers, according to a security researcher.

Last week, Image confirmed the data breach allows hackers to steal “a few files” from his system. The company did not elaborate on the type of data stolen or say how many customers were affected.

On Wednesday, Troy Hunt, a security researcher and developer of data breach notifications Am I disappointed?he analyzed what he said was taken from the Image and found had 967,200 unique addresses associated with Figure customers.

The data also included customer names, dates of birth, home addresses, and phone numbers.

Image did not respond to a request for comment and did not say whether the company disputes Hunt’s findings.

Cybercrime group ShinyHunters told TechCrunch last week that it was responsible for the cyberattack targeting Image. The group published 2.5 gigabytes of data allegedly stolen from Image on its dump site, where hackers shame victims and publish the stolen data if they fail to take over the stolen companies.
